It has the largest collection of Italian Renaissance sculptures in Florence, the Bargello is the natural counterpart to masterpieces of Renaissance painting in the Uffizi Gallery.
This former fortress/prison (it is still possible to visit the chapel where those sentenced to death in the past said their last prayers) now offers two beautiful rooms devoted to Michelangelo and Donatello, and some masterpieces of Luca della Robbia, Verrocchio and Cellini.
