According to an old legend Pisa was founded by some Trojan refugees from the homonymous Greek city of Pisa, once located in the valley of the river Alpheus, in the Peloponnese.
This beautiful city of Tuscany is famous worldwide for its Leaning Tower but there’s more in Pisa, in fact, it is dotted with prestigious monuments which are well worth visiting, apart from the famous tower, the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, also known as the Piazza dei Miracoli, which is UNESCO World Heritage Site, there are also the impressive cathedral, the Baptistery and the Monumental Cemetery in Romanesque style. It must be remembered that in the past Pisa was a Maritime Republic and for a long time, undisputed mistress of the Mediterranean.
